Dane County has committed to powering county-owned facilities with 100% renewable electricity. All of our department offices now have solar panels that provide energy for the buildings. This page highlights those projects and provides links (when possible) to energy dashboards with real-time information on the energy being generated. All of these systems help power the facility they are attached to and also send power back to the grid.

A 10.7 kW solar energy system was installed in 2020 on the roof of our operations and maintenance facility located on Libby Road in Madison. This system, installed by Full Spectrum Solar, uses panels removed from another Dane County facility and is expected to provide enough electricity to power 100% of the operations at this facility.
A 43 kW solar energy system was installed in 2020 on the roof of parks and lake management facility our east building located on Robertson Road in Madison. The system provides approximately 45% of the electricity used at this site.
Dane County Parks has installed over 20 electronic pay stations to allow park users to purchase activity permits at the park. Each pay has a solar panel that provides it with 100% of its energy needs. Find locations of paystations on the map linked below.
A 3.4 kW solar energy system was installed in 2017 on the roof of the restroom building at Indian Lake County Park in Cross Plains.
A total of 128 solar panels were installed in 2017 on the roof of our main office building on Fen Oak Drive in Madison. The energy from this solar installation is used on site to power the building.
A 1.4 kW solar energy system was installed in 2018 on the roof of the Stone House at Silverwood County Park in Edgerton. The Stone House located at Silverwood County Park is a Historic Farmstead dating from the late 1800's. The energy is used on site for public and private events at the facility.
Dane County’s first solar-powered park and campground. The 460 panel system provides about 90% of the electricity used by campers, day-use visitors, and the Lussier Family Heritage Center facility.
