Capital City Trail Status and Dane County Parks Flooding Update

MADISON, WI – August 31, 2018 - Work is progressing on the Capital City Trail pavement restoration project that began on July 9th between Glacier Valley and Nob Hill Road.  Please be advised that although the trail may appear ready to use on sections that have recently been paved between Glacier Valley and Nob Hill Roads, the trail is still closed to allow for installation of gravel shoulders, landscaping, detectable warning panels, and signage.  With an extended period of dry weather, it is anticipated work may be completed and the trail will reopen in mid-September.

In addition to the pavement restoration closures, sections of the trail immediately west and east of the Longford Terrace underpass are closed due to washouts that occurred during the record setting rainfall event on August 20th.  Repair of the washout areas is expected to begin soon after the Labor Day weekend and is also anticipated to be completed and reopened by mid-September. Repairs to culverts adjacent to the trail at the Badger State/Cannonball/Capital City trail intersection known as the bicycle roundabout are anticipated to be completed after Labor Day weekend.

Cyclists and pedestrians are required to continue using alternate routes of travel during these closures.  Alternative routes, online mapping tools, and additional information is available at: http://www.danecountyparks.com/Information/Planning-Development/Capital-City-Trail-Pavement-Restoration.   For an up-to-date listing of other Dane County trail and park closures due to the flooding, please visit the Dane County Parks website at www.danecountyparks.com. The website will continue to be updated as conditions change.
