Dane County Parks is planning a prescribed burn at Prairie Moraine County Park for Saturday morning, April 26, 2014. If the weather is conducive for burning that morning the park will be closed from 7:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. The park will reopen after the burn.
“This is a popular park with dog walkers and hikers,” states Parks Director Darren Marsh. “We are sensitive to the heavy use it receives on weekend, but we also need to plan around the spring weather when planning burns to manage our grasslands.” Based on forecast predictions, there appears to be a window on Saturday morning when the off-lease dog exercise area can be burned. Marsh noted that once the grassland has been burned, there will be a cover of black ash and soot. After the first rain, the ash and soot will disappear and the areas will quickly green up with lush vegetation.
Patrons are asked to use other nearby park facilities on Saturday April 26, 2014. Most convenient will be the dog park at Badger Prairie County Park, located north of Prairie Moraine at the intersection of CTH PB and 1100 E Verona Ave, Verona, WI.
