Dane County Parks’ Environmental Fun Fair Sparks Interest in Science and Nature
Hands on activities for all ages and abilities

MADISON, WI - July 9, 2024 - Join Dane County Parks for an Environmental Fun Fair located on the grounds of our Lussier Family Heritage Center facility on Sunday, July 14 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. This FREE fun afternoon will be full of hands-on, sensory activities centered around nature, outdoor recreation, and science. This is an inclusive event appropriate for ALL ages and abilities!

The event will feature over 20 activity and learning stations, including a rainfall simulator, mobile trash lab, bird banding and tracking, camping demo, live animals, tree climb (all ages and abilities), face painting, games, and much more.

“We invite everyone in our community to join the fun and have added some features this year to help expand access. There will be a reserved parking lot for accessible parking, all-terrain wheelchairs provided by AccessAbility Wisconsin and Dane County Parks, Spanish interpreters, and an adaptive saddle at the tree climb station so anyone can experience what it is like to be a Dane County arborist.” said Dane County Parks’ Engagement and Visitor Services Manager, Lael Pascual.

The Lussier Family Heritage Center is located in the heart of the Capital Springs Recreation along the Lower Yahara River Trail and is surrounded by native prairie, freshwater marsh, and oak savanna habitats.

“This is the perfect setting for an event like this.” said County Executive, Jamie Kuhn. “The Lussier Family Heritage Center is located in the nearly 2,500 acre Capital Springs Recreation Area which provides abundant opportunities to get outside and explore our natural resources. It is an inspiring location to spark interest in the outdoors, wildlife and nature.”

Activities under both solar shelter, the big oak tree and the lower level of the Center. Check in at the event information table when you arrive for a map, interpreters or wheelchair checkouts. Parking is available at the Heritage Center and across the road at the Capital City Trail/Lower Yahara River Trail Trailhead (3102 Lake Farm Road). Accessible parking, bike parking and EV charging stations are available on site.
