Glacial Drumlin to Capital City Connector Trail

Properties: Blooming Grove Drumlins Natural Resource Area, Capital City State Trail

Dane County, the Village of Cottage Grove, City of Madison, Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are continuing to plan for the last missing segment of the Glacial Drumlin State Trail beginning at the I-90 bridge in Madison and extending east to the existing Glacial Drumlin Trail Trailhead in the Village of Cottage Grove. Between the interstate and Cottage Grove, the proposed trail will generally parallel the existing railroad corridor and is anticipated to be a combination of paved trail, bridges and boardwalks. In the Village of Cottage Grove, the trail between Phoebe Bakken Memorial Park, Fireman’s Park, and the existing Glacial Drumlin State Trail trailhead located on CTH N is complete.

Dane County Parks and their consultant CORRE, INC. have started the first phase of planning and design for the trail segment between I-90 and Buckeye Road. Completion of planning for this phase of the project is contingent on identifying a mutually agreeable solution for sharing the active rail corridor underpass at the interstate. Additional land acquisition is also necessary to complete the remaining segment between Buckeye Road and Vilas Road.
