Cover Crops, Bugs and Beer

Event Description

This evening field event includes:

1) What is winter camilina?

Historically cereal rye has been the only dependable cover crop option in grain systems. Come learn about htis new cover crop species and how it may fit into your operations - Chelsea Zegler

2) Cover crop equipment showcase

We will have several pieces of equipment that have been bought or modified for efficient cover crop planting including several different air seeders, VTs, and a drone. Both green and red will be represented. BFF farmers on site to answer questions.

3) Bugs and beer with Dane Elmquist, Entomologist

Dane will talk about his study that aims to compare the abundance of true armyworm in fields where corn was either planted after a cereal rye cover crop or into a field that had no previous cover crop. Field sites include Furseth Farms and Watson Family Farm.

Pizza and beverages for dinner! The event is free.
